Singapore Airlines Promotion with Discovery Channel Continues
Article by Chris Robertson
What do Singapore Airlines and the Discovery Channel have in common? More than you might think, if you talk to the sales and marketing manager for Singapore Air. The airline company launched a yearlong Singapore Airlines promotion with the Discovery Channel back in January. At that point, the sales and marketing manager told the press that the company shares core values with the Discovery Channel, making them a natural fit for the Singapore Airlines promotion. Among the shared values is the importance of harnessing the latest technologies for the benefit of the companies’ respective customers.
The ad campaign includes online promotions, including a section of the Discovery Channel’s website branded with Singapore Airlines. The section includes such nifty features as recipes for foods served to first class flyers in the premium cabins along with photos and information about the upscale luxury cabins on the airline’s aircraft. The new cabins are targeted for upscale male passengers, and include private suites with beds, entertainment centers, wardrobes and gourmet dining.
As part of the Singapore Airlines promotion, the Discovery Channel will show television commercials highlighting SingaporeAir’s Airbus A380 superjumbo jet, billed the “largest wings ever.” The Airbus A380 was introduced by SingaporeAir in 2007, which boasts 12 luxury class suites, including double suites with double beds, as well as 60 business class seats and 399 economy class seats.
In keeping with SingaporeAir’s mission to bring the ultimate in travel to its customers, even economy class offers unparalleled luxury to flyers, with a full 32 inches of space between seat rows, indented seats to offer more leg room and personal entertainment screens with USB and power ports so that travelers can plug in their iPods, personal entertainment consoles and laptops.
If you’re lucky enough to score one of the luxury Airbus suites, the perks include hotel-style turndown service, full-size pillows and bedding and pajamas designed by French designer Givenchy. Your menu will include such pricey and delicious options as Seared Turbot with Globe Artichokes, Slow-dried Sliced Tomatoes and Arugula and North Indian Spiced Lamb Stew. A popular dessert on SingaporeAir is Chocolate Bread and Butter Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream, created by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey.
Ramsey is only one of the many world-class chefs tapped to create meals for the Singapore Airlines promotions luxury introduction. They include Yoshihiro Murata, Anne Oakes and Matt Moran, owner of Sydney’s world-renowned ARIA restaurant and celebrity television chef. The menu is accompanied by world-class wines chosen by an international panel of wine experts, who have compiled a wine list that includes such names as Dom Perignon and Krug.
Even if airline passage in a luxury class cabin is outside your usual price range, there’s still a chance for you to sample the lifestyle. Part of the Discovery Channel and Singapore Air promotion is a series of ongoing contests to win trips for two to various destinations served by Singapore Airlines. The latest contest is open for entries through October 6, 2011 and includes a chance to win airfare for two and four nights lodging in Bali, Australia, New Zealand or Singapore.
